Skin Care
YES! Double cleansing your face is highly recommended, typically in the evening, especially if you've been wearing makeup. The first cleanse is designed to remove makeup, sunscreen, dirt, and debris. The second cleanse is where you're cleansing your "true skin".
Paying special attention to your problem areas and allowing the skin to benefit from the active ingredients in your cleanser.
You'll want a completely clean canvas for your nighttime treatment products and moisturizers to provide desired results.
To determine your skin type, observe how your skin reacts after cleansing without any products for about 30 minutes.
If your skin feels oily and shiny all over, you likely have oily skin. If it feels tight and dry, you have dry skin. Combination skin will show oiliness in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) and dryness on the cheeks. Sensitive skin might appear normal, but it reacts easily to products or environmental changes.
Here's a more detailed breakdown
- Oily Skin: Characterized by excessive shine and oil production, often leading to enlarged pores, blackheads, and breakouts.
- Dry Skin: Lacking moisture, leading to a dull, tight, flaky, or rough appearance.
- Combination Skin: A mix of oily and dry areas, typically oily in the T-zone and dry on the cheeks.
- Normal Skin: Well-balanced, neither oily nor dry, with a smooth texture and even tone.
- Sensitive Skin: Easily irritated, prone to redness, itching, or stinging, potentially triggered by products or environmental factors.
Common Signs of Aging Skin:
- Wrinkles and Fine Lines
Loss of collagen and elastin leads to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines, particularly in sun-exposed areas. - Thinning Skin:
The skin becomes more fragile and translucent due to the loss of collagen and fat. - Age Spots:
Increased melanin production in certain areas can lead to the appearance of age spots or liver spots. - Dryness and Reduced Elasticity:
Dryness is caused by a decrease in oil production and impaired barrier function, while reduced elasticity means the skin is less able to bounce back after stretching.
To determine if a skincare product is right for your skin, you should first identify your skin type (normal, oily, dry, combination, or sensitive) and then look for products specifically formulated for that type. Always perform a patch test before applying a new product to your entire face to check for any adverse reactions like redness, irritation, or breakouts.
A basic skincare routine for beginners typically involves cleansing, using a treatment product, and sun protection. In the morning, this includes cleansing, applying serum and/or toner, and a moisturizing sunscreen. At night, it usually involves a double cleansing, toning (optional), applying a treatment product/serum, and moisturizing.
Additional Tips:
- Listen to your skin:
Pay attention to how your skin reacts to different products and adjust your routine accordingly. - Start simple:
Don't overwhelm your skin with too many products at once.
Begin with the basic routine and gradually add products as needed. - Be consistent:
Stick to your routine for several weeks to see noticeable results. - Consider your skin type:
Choose products that are specifically formulated for your skin type (e.g., oily, dry, combination, sensitive, aging). - Exfoliate a few times a week:
Gentle exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells and improve skin texture. - Don't forget your neck and chest:
These areas are also prone to sun damage and aging, so remember to apply sunscreen and moisturizer there as well.
To effectively prevent acne beyond using good skincare products, it's crucial to adopt a holistic approach that includes mindful habits, stress management, and a healthy lifestyle. This involves being gentle with your skin, choosing non-comedogenic products, and avoiding picking at pimples
Products
At this time, we don't offer a body care line, but in theory, the set could be used on body acne, as some of the active ingredients would be similar to an acne treatment line for the body.
It typically takes a few weeks to several months to see noticeable results from a consistent skin care routine, depending on the product and the individual's skin.
Some products, like cleansers and moisturizers, may show results within a couple of weeks, while others, like AHA's, BHA's, and serums, can take several months.
Be patient and consistent with your routine, as visible results take time to develop.
Factors Affecting Results:
- Skin type:
Oily, dry, or sensitive skin may react differently to products. - Product quality and formulation:
High-quality products with potent ingredients may deliver faster results. - Consistency:
Following your skincare routine diligently is crucial for seeing results. - Severity of skin concerns:
More severe issues may require longer to address. - Individual skin cell turnover rate:
This varies by age and can influence how quickly results are seen. - Other lifestyle factors: Diet, sleep, and sun protection also play a role in skin health and how well your skincare works
Jemma's Normal/Dry Skin Set is appropriate for even the most sensitive skin.
The 3-step process contains 4 products, as the AM moisturizer is a Sunscreen intended for AM use only, and the Golden Seal Facial Oil is your nighttime moisturizer.
You may also add a couple of drops of the Golden Seal Facial Oil to your Sunscreen if additional moisture is required throughout the day.
The 3-step system should be used twice daily for optimal results. For specialty products, aside from the 3-step system, please refer to individual product directions.
Generally speaking, most Jemma skincare products are likely to be safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as many over-the-counter skincare products contain ingredients that are unlikely to be harmful. However, as every pregnancy/breastfeeding is different, and sensitivities can vary, it is always recommended to consult with your doctor or dermatologist to determine the specific safety of any skincare product or treatment before using it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
General questions
When selecting skincare products, it's generally recommended to avoid ingredients like parabens, triclosan, phthalates, and formaldehyde, as they can irritate or harm your skin. Additionally, choosing skin care products that are cruelty-free is recommended as well.
The three most essential skincare products are an effective cleanser, moisturizing sunscreen and an eye cream. These products form the foundation of a healthy skincare routine by cleansing the skin, providing necessary hydration, and protecting it from sun damage.
